Reflection:
The purpose of my PSA is straight to the point. It hits you
up front with three distinct and crucial facts about cyberbullying. Evidence of
the growing cyber bullying problem is everywhere, especially in schools. I used
my knowledge and personal classroom experiences with students, as well as
researched based facts and evidence to compose this piece. I targeted mothers
specifically with this PSA, but I also did not include the “mom” phrase until
the final slide; therefore, allowing this PSA to also draw its own audience. Creative
expression can be seen throughout each slide with silence to attract attention
and create awareness; forcing viewers to read and process each statement. The
red font added to highlight key words emphasizes importance to the specifics of
the facts and the visual at the end, along with the slogan, hits the nail on
the head with emotional appeal to convey the importance of the message. The “what
don’t you know, mom” phrase is short, thought intriguing, and will hopefully be
embedded into the memory of each mother who views; leaving cyber bullying in
their thoughts long after this PSA is over.
I tried to watch your video, but it says it is private?! I think you need to change your setting on YouTube
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up Amanda! Should be fixed now!
ReplyDeleteChelsea,
ReplyDeleteI think that your PSA was very well written and it flowed really well. Your statistics are very eye opening and parents really should watch this. I know that a lot of the parents that have students at my school don't know half of the things that their kids are doing after school hours and even during school. I liked that your PSA is very straight forward and that you can take from it exactly what it gives you. There are no hidden messages or anything like that. You got your point across right from the beginning. Good job!

ReplyDeleteI think a lot of the power of your PSA comes from its simplicity! The facts you’ve included are very effective at getting the attention of the viewer, and really speak for themselves. The black background and color choice for your text all contribute to the serious message you’re sending with your video. If you had added music or pictures it would have distracted the viewer from the message so it was very wise not to. The final slide, “What don’t you know, Mom?” is very powerful. Great job on the PSA! So simple, but so effective in its emotional appeal.
ReplyDeleteYour PSA is very powerful. Like mentioned earlier, the lack of sounds itself pulls the viewer in. Your 3 statistics are very straight to the point and should be something that every parent sees. It's all too easy for kids to lie to their parents about what is going on in their online life. And something parents are too naive to think otherwise. I think that the suicide stat will make a last impression in parents' minds as they think about their own children and their safety and well-being. Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteWhat don't you know Mom? I like how this is plain, simple and fast. You almost feel like you missed something, which is the way it does happen. The black background and white and red lettering go well with this theme. The silence gives you concentrate on the text. I find it very unsettling. Having three teenagers using myspace, facebook and texting (no pictures or snap chat until the last one, thank goodenss!) was enough to cause many talks and sleepless nights. I know that parents are worried about their children. They try to be involved enough, but not too much. It is a fine line that social media doesn't make any easier.
ReplyDeleteAs part of my TIS Certification I am required to provide Digital Literacy information during open house, parent/teacher conferences or other times when parents and students are in the building. I would like to use your PSA at one of these during the year if that is okay with you.
I really love how your PSA came together. I love the simplicity of it, and I think that alone gets your audience's attention. It's very ominous, and kind of works as a scare tactic for parents, which is a great persuasive technique. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteChelsea, I remember reading about your vision for your PSA on your storyboard, and I think you nailed everything you were going for. The simplicity of the text on the black background and the pure silence gives exactly the effect you were hoping for. It draws you in and forces you to focus on the facts being presented, which are powerful enough on their own. Awesome job!
